The church is situated at the Algeria Square in Tripoli. It was founded by the Italians in the mis-thirties of the past century. It is one of the biggest Italian churchesin Libya. Italian used Maltese stone at the entaracance and for the windows. As for the structurce,they used stones from the local quarry at al-Dahra , and the quarries of Gergaresh. It also has a tower with bells. The Italians community in Tripoli continued to use the church , despite the expulsion of the Italians from Libya in 1943, up to 1970, when the Italisn community left for Italy and the church was converted to a mosque , which came to be known as Abdul Nasser mosque.Recently it underwent several alterations and improvements.
