''Tuesdays with Morrie'' is a humble although satirical explicit story by the American best-selling author Mitch Albom.The book was published on 1997 and archives the time Mitch Albom spent with his professor,the book rose to the New York Times bestseller's list on October the 27th 1997 and climbed it's way to number one six months later.This exhilarating book lasted 205 weeks as number one and sold about 14 millıon copies and was translated in about 41 languages.
This true story captures the essence of life in a whole new perspective.Every individual has someone to rely and count on for guidance in addition to assistance.It can be anyone from a family member or friend to teacher or colleague. Mitch Albom depends on his prudent sociology professor Morrie Schwartz.
Mitch album had a flashback,a reminiscence of his graduation from Brandeis University in the spring of 1979.He presents his sociology professor a monogrammed briefcase as a gift and promises his thrilled professor who's weeping that they will remain in contact but fails to accomplish his promise.Their relationship was like a father and son and judicious Morrie always had sensible advice available.
They were accustomed to meet every Tuesday to negotiate problems regarding life in addition to it's bizarre ways.Years past and Mitch didn't contact Morrie .As his uncle has passed away due to having pancreatic cancer Mitch abandoned his unsuccessful career as a musician and started to work as a journalist for a Detroit newspaper.On the other hand Morrie has to give up his hobby as a result of having a terminal disease named ALS ''a progressive degeneration of the motor neurons of the central nervous system leading to wasting of muscles and paralysis'' . Mitch thinks about how frustrating life is while he changes television channels he recognizes Mitch's voice and watches as Morrie appears on the television show ''Nightline'' and expresses his view of life with this illness and how it has affected him.Mitch decides to meet Morrie and flies from Detroit to West Newton in Massachusetts to meet Morrie who is overjoyed to see him after all this time.They catch up on what each of them missed and continue their weekly conversations as if they were never separated.
Mitch remains frustrated when he finds out that the article he worked so diligently on wasn't being published because of the union he belongs to is striking against the newspaper he works for.
Morrie and Mitch meet regularly on Tuesdays as if it were old times.Morrie had a hard and excruciating childhood,his mother passed away when he was eight and he and his little brother remained with their father,Charlie.Morrie had no emotional support from his father.His father remarried a woman named Eva and Charlie prohibited Morrie to speak of his mother as he wanted Morrie's brother to think Eva was his real mother.The only thing Morrie has from his mother was a telegram which he held on to all his life.Mitch has a problem with his brother who lives in Spain and refuses to talk to him and wants to fight his pancreatic cancer alone but calls Mitch only to tell him that he's fine.Although Morrie points out that this situation will turn around which after his death proves to be correct.
They meet weekly on Tuesdays to discuss life and it's predicaments and how they can defeat the obstacles to remain at peace inspite of that Morrie's health is deteriorating each week.They tape their conversations and make notes because Morrie requests that Mitch writes a book on these brief discussions.Mitch keeps his promise and writes this motivational and inspirational book with fascinating clarity and natural simplicity.
