One thing that has been on my mind a lot lately is The Sopranos, for those of you who don't know what the Sopranos is, it's a TV which many critics regard as the greatest TV show of all time, they haven't stepped a foot wrong there, I assure you. I have just downloaded all 6 seasons, and I am hooked, fish, line and sinker.
Well first let me start of by saying The Sopranos isn't really for the young, it's a deep, perplexing complex drama on the mafia, to understand it you have to read between the lines, no show has depicted the relationship with the mafia and family as well as this show. So, many people recommend the show to mature audiences. Ideally over the 16 mark. So in a nutshell what is The Sopranos? Pay attention and you'll find out.
The Sopranos which ran from 1999-2007, written by David Chase revolves around the continuous plot on how Mob boss Tony Soprano deals with the aspect of family and mobster life, currently I am on Season 4 and I have to say it's the greatest TV Show out there. I noticed in the first seasons his children appear oblivious to the fact of who there father's occupation is, he regularly states he is in the 'Waste Management' business. He has two children, AJ short for Anthong Juniour, and a daughter called Meadow. As his daughter matures and starts to attend university she realizes who her father really is, but to my surprise, it was subtle but it was there, it's like she already knew of her father's doings. Her relationship with her mother, Tony's wife, is a very close- knit one.
The Sopranos family.
From left to right : Meadow Soprano, Anthony Soprano, Carmela Soprano, and AJ Soprano.
One major plotline around this series is the fact that Tony has a psychiatrist, since he started getting blackouts, this psychiatrist is a fundamental part of the show, and it's rare that she doesn't feature on a regular basis. When his wife mentioned he need's a psychiatrist he refuses whole heartidly, saying that a man of his stature going to a shrink would cause shame and contempt from other familes, he would embarass himself if other's knew about, so he decided to take his wife's advice and attend secretly. The psychiatrist of course knowing his occupation, enjoy's the thrills. They talk about it in off beat ways, he continues to talk about the Waste Managment business, and how he 'lost' a dear friend of his, this shows how he is protective of his status in new Jersey, he is feared among the parts, and people have great respect for him. As the show progresses, he starts to trust the Psychiatrist more, even telling her about who he is going to '' send to witness protection''. The show can be very sad and disturbing at times, so I will say again, it's not for the young and certainly not for the faint hearted. And kudos to the creater David Chase for this genius he has created.
So the show is the best, it's as simple as that, nothing comes close to it. So I'm off now, don't want to waste time, I've got some Sopranos to watch.
